Bachelor’s Thesis

Requirements
- Content and specific requirements are agreed with your supervisor before starting.
- The supervisor defines the main goal; the student creates a timeline with milestones. The official start date is when the supervisor approves the timeline.
Timeframe
- Start is possible at any time.
- The workload is 13 ECTS (≈ 325 hours), resulting in a minimum duration of about 2 months, including the writing phase.
Writing
- Language: German or English.
- Format: LaTeX, using the official IFM template (provided by the Institute upon start).
- The use of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) must be discussed with the supervisor beforehand. Any undeclared use is treated as plagiarism.
Master’s Thesis

Valid for the Master’s programmes: Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Business Economics, and Digital Engineering.
Requirements
- Content and specific requirements are agreed with your supervisor.
- Registration at the Dean’s Office of the Mechanical Faculty is required: fill out the official registration sheet (available at tu4u.tugraz.at), and collect signatures from your supervisor and the Dean of Studies.
- The supervisor defines the main goal; the student creates a timeline with milestones. The official start date is the submission of the registration sheet to the Dean’s Office.
Timeframe
- Start is possible at any time.
- The workload is 30 ECTS (≈ 750 hours), resulting in a minimum duration of about 6 months, including the writing phase.
- The written work must be submitted within 12 months from the start date.
Writing
- Language: English.
- Format: LaTeX, using the official IFM template (provided by the Institute upon start).
- A plagiarism check on the final revised version is mandatory.
- The use of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) must be discussed with the supervisor beforehand. Any undeclared use is treated as plagiarism.
